Dierks Bentley’s 2006 hit “Every Mile a Memory” came out of a drive songwriter Steve Bogard made in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. But its message has been applied to all sorts of situations. It speaks to the hard-touring work ethic of Bentley, and it also resonated with an Iraq War veteran. The title also served as the name of Bentley’s exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame. Bart Herbison of Nashville Songwriters Association International spoke with Bogard and co-writer Brett Beavers about crafting the tune.
